Equality comparison: as ... as and not as ... as
The pattern
Structure: subject + verb + AS + adjective + AS + second thing. The adjective stays in its base form: no -er, no -est, no more. Examples: "My brother is as tall as me." "This exam is as difficult as the last one." For the negative you can say "not as ... as" or "not so ... as": "A whale is not as fast as a cheetah." The order of the two things can flip with the same meaning: "She is as old as Tom" equals "Tom is as old as her."

| Oracion | Qué compara | Resultado |
|---|---|---|
| The red box is as heavy as the blue one. | Peso en igualdad | pesan igual |
| Spanish is not as hard as maths for me. | Dificultad desigual | maths es mas dura |
| This phone is as expensive as that one. | Precio en igualdad | cuestan igual |
Worked example, step by step
Goal: say that two friends run at the same speed. Step 1: pick the adjective: fast. Step 2: put it between as and as: "as fast as". Step 3: add subject and verb: "Ana runs as fast as Luis." To show they differ, make it negative: "Luis does not run as fast as Ana." Notice the adjective never changes: you never write "as faster as".
