1. Can-do statements
- Decide now: It’s cold. I’ll close the window.
- Talk about a plan: We’re going to visit the museum on Saturday.
- Predict with evidence: Look at the sky. It’s going to rain.
- Predict without evidence: I think robots will do our homework one day.
- Promise and offer: I’ll send you the file tonight.
|---|---|---|
| Daniela: “Ok, I’ll call the bus company now.” | decisión en el momento | will |
| Diego: “We’re going to meet the guide at nine.” | plan ya acordado | be going to |
| Ana: “I think it will be crowded.” | opinión sobre el futuro | will |
| Ana: “Those clouds are black. It’s going to rain.” | predicción con evidencia | be going to |
| Diego: “I’ll carry the first-aid kit, don’t worry.” | ofrecimiento | will |
| La coordinadora: “The bus leaves at 6:30, so we’re going to be early.” | horario y consecuencia | presente simple + going to |
3. La forma de los dos auxiliares
will marca la decisión que se toma en el momento de hablar, no antes. be going to marca la intención o el plan que ya existía antes de hablar. will no cambia con la persona y va seguido del infinitivo sin to; going to lleva el verbo be conjugado. en la conversación real casi todo va contraído: I’ll, we’re going, she’ll, won’t.
| Estructura | Afirmativa | Negativa | Pregunta |
|---|---|---|---|
| will + infinitive | She will come. | She won’t come. | Will she come? |
| be going to + infinitive | She is going to come. | She isn’t going to come. | Is she going to come? |
| Contracciones | She’ll come. We’re going to leave. | She won’t come. | How much will it be? |
| Reducción hablada | I’m gonna start at six (informal) | We aren’t gonna make it | Are you gonna join? |
| Uso | Auxiliar | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|
| Decisión en el momento | will | Wait, I’ll pay for this one. |
| Plan previo | be going to | We’re going to visit the town museum. |
| Predicción con evidencia | be going to | The bus is going to miss the turn. |
| Predicción sin evidencia | will | Someday it will be free to travel. |
| Promesa u ofrecimiento | will | I’ll bring the water, you bring the snacks. |
| Negativa o resistencia | won’t | The door won’t open. |
|---|---|---|
| now, in a second | will | I’ll answer it now. |
| tonight, tomorrow | ambos | I’m going to study tonight. / I’ll call you tomorrow. |
| next week, in June | going to | We’re going to travel in June. |
| I think, probably, maybe | will | I think it will rain later. |
| Look!, Listen! | going to | Look! He’s going to fall. |
| on time, at seven | presente simple | The bus leaves at seven. |
Match each sentence with the use it shows
| F5 | Nadie quiere cargar la hielera | ofrecimiento | will + I’ll |
| F6 | Un compañero no contestó | suposición y promesa | will + won’t |

|---|---|
| 1 | Attention group 2B: we are going to travel to Taxco on Saturday, June 14. The bus is going to leave the school gate at 6:30 exactly, so please be there at 6:10. |
| 2 | We are going to visit the silver workshop at nine and the museum at eleven. Lunch is going to be in the plaza: bring your own water, we aren’t going to buy bottles there. |

| 4 | I think the day will be hot, so bring a cap. Weather aside, nothing is going to stop the trip: we’ve been planning it since March. |

Which information is NOT in the announcement?

One word from paragraph 4: the trip has been since March.
7b. Pronunciación: lo que se contrae al hablar
en la conversación real casi todo va contraído: I’ll, we’re going, she’ll, won’t. Escuchar el futuro inglés es escuchar reducciones: I’ll suena como un solo golpe y going to suena como una sílaba larga.
| Escrita | Hablada | Ojo con |
|---|---|---|
| I will help | I’ll help | la l no se separa |
| she will come | she’ll come | no es she will |
| we are going to leave | we’re gonna leave | el be va contraído |
| it is going to rain | it’s gonna rain | is se suelta |

| would you like…? | ya no es will | condicional, otra lección |

|---|---|---|
| We’ll leave at 6:30, right? | The group is going to depart at 6:30 a.m. | contracción vs forma plena |

| It’ll probably rain | Current forecasts indicate possible rain. | opinión vs dato |
| Don’t worry, we won’t miss it | The group will not miss the opening hour. | tono |

|---|---|---|---|
| Forma | Sin to tras will, be conjugado | Un desliz | will to go |
| Contracción | Usa I’ll y won’t al hablar | Formas completas | Suena artificial |
Model email: Hi Ms. Herrera, about Saturday. We are going to leave the school at 6:30 because the museum opens at nine and the bus takes two hours. Diego will bring the first-aid kit and I’ll take the attendance list. I think the road will be busy, but the driver says we’re going to make it before ten. If the rain starts, we won’t cancel: we’re going to move the outdoor part to the courtyard. See you at 6:15 at the gate.
