Identity features of English-speaking communities
English is spoken in many countries, and each community has its own identity features: accent (how people sound), spelling (how they write), food, clothes and traditions. In an information sheet (ficha), we write these features in a clear and organised way.
| Community | Where we hear English | Typical food | A known tradition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Irish | Ireland | soda bread, stew | music and dance in the pub |
| Jamaican | Jamaica | rice and peas, ackee | reggae music and storytelling |
| Scottish | Scotland | oat porridge | bagpipes and Highland games |
| Māori | New Zealand | hāngī (cooked in the ground) | haka and whakapapa stories |
