1. Cómo se evalúa esta unidad

Esta evaluación no pide cuatro temas separados: pide saber cuál estás usando. Before you answer, decide which time the item tests: an open future, an unlikely present or a closed past. Veintisiete reactivos en cuatro bloques y un solo caso: the robot stopped forty-five seconds into a ninety-second run and the team lost the fair by forty points. The hypotheses become credible with numbers: two practices, a fifty-second short run and a forty-point margin.

2. El caso: the fair, the battery and four decisions

The team practised twice, charged the battery to eighty percent and never cleaned the sensor.

A mixed conditional joins a finished past cause with a present result, as in if we had practised we would not be disappointed now. Segunda: the story can be told in the passive to hide who acted, as in the sensor was cleaned once and the backup was never charged, y los renglones de mantenimiento están escritos así. Tercera: a second conditional claim usually sits below about twenty percent belief, and that is what makes it a dream instead of a plan; por eso "if we had a spare motor" es un sueño, no un plan.

When the speaker still believes something can happen the future stays open with a first conditional, not a dream.

Reactivo 1. The school owns no spare motor and the next fair is far. Choose the honest second conditional:

Reactivo 2. Why "If I were the coach" and not "If I was the coach" here?

Reactivo 3. Complete the advice: If I were you, I ___ the battery before the next run.

Reactivo 4. "If the robot was ready yesterday, it would pass" is the only possible form; were is mandatory in every register.

Reactivo 5. A second conditional usually sits below about twenty percent belief.

Reactivo 6. Complete: If we (have) one more week, we (rebuild) the arm.

Reactivo 7. The loss is Sunday (closed) but the team is disappointed now. Choose the mixed form:

4. Bloque 2: unless, in case y la coma, reactivos 8 a 14

Unless means if not and already carries the negative, so the verb after it stays affirmative and in the present form. In case marks a precaution already taken against a possible event, and its verb stays in the present form.

Reactivo 8. "___ the battery holds a full charge, the robot stops mid-run."

Reactivo 9. Choose the precaution the team really took:

Reactivo 10. Why is "Unless the battery will hold a charge" wrong?

Reactivo 11. "Unless we do not hurry, we will miss the ride" is correct English.

Reactivo 12. Rewrite with one word: "If the code is not clean, the judges stop the run" becomes " the code is clean, the judges stop the run."

Reactivo 13. Which sentence places the comma correctly?

Reactivo 14. Sort each sentence by the connector it needs

The third conditional rewrites a closed past, so if they had tested the sensor it would not have stopped on stage. Every have inside a conditional or a modal takes a past participle, and the irregular forms decide the accuracy.

Reactivo 15. The run failed on Sunday. Choose the correct regret:

Reactivo 16. A better calibration might have saved the run, so winning was possible but not certain. Choose it:

Reactivo 17. "I should have told the coach" needs an if clause to be correct.

Reactivo 18. Complete: If the sensor had been cleaned, the robot the run.

Reactivo 19. In "If we had slept well, we would think clearly now", the result refers to:

Reactivo 20. Match each sentence to its structure

Reactivo 21. Write the two hads: "If we more time, we would have fixed the arm."

      6. Bloque 4: texto retrospectivo y decisión, reactivos 22 a 27

The integrative text must use at least one second, one unless or in case, one third and one mixed conditional. Los seis reactivos revisan decisiones, no memoria. In a real retrospective paragraph the writer stacks third conditionals and then lands on one lesson in the present.

Reactivo 22. Your paragraph says "If the team would have practised, they would win". What is wrong?

Reactivo 23. Which line is a correct third conditional about the fair?

Reactivo 24. A classmate writes "Unless we will not practise, we lose". The best feedback is:

Reactivo 25. Which is the right order of a retrospective paragraph?

Reactivo 26. The written product must include one mixed conditional and at least one unless or in case.

Reactivo 27. In your peer checklist, what must every regret be anchored to?

The hypotheses become credible with numbers: two practices, a fifty-second short run and a forty-point margin.

Why does the last section switch to "would not be this disappointed now"?

Complete the warning line: we clean the sensor, the same thing happen, so I set an alarm I forget.

Before you answer, decide which time the item tests: an open future, an unlikely present or a closed past. Tapa las tres últimas columnas, resuelve y compara.

Hecho real, sueño presente, pasado reescrito, mezcla
Hecho realSecond (ahora improbable)Third (ayer cerrado)Mixed (ayer con hoy)

Nobody checked the logIf I were the coach, I would check itIf we had checked the log, we would have seen itIf we had checked it, we would not be surprised

La quinta fila encierra la forma más difícil de la unidad: "If we had had a motor, we would have swapped it", con dos had en la condición. The double had of the past perfect reduces in speech, so if I had had is heard as if I ada had. A mixed conditional joins a finished past cause with a present result, as in if we had practised we would not be disappointed now.

Which cell correctly rewrites "The battery was at 80%" as a closed past?

Why is "If the sensor were clean, it would work" a second conditional and not a third?

Convert to the mixed form: "We did not train, and we are tired now" → If we had trained, we not this tired now.

To defend a decisión orally you give the real fact, the alternative you weighed and the consequence you accepted.

      • Chequeo 3: ¿algún if trae would dentro?

      • Cinco oraciones defectuosas corregidas: would dentro del if, base tras have, doble negación, futuro tras in case y were con will.

      15. Resumen de la unidad

the second conditional imagines an unlikely or impossible present, so if the team had a spare motor they would not be stuck now. Advice and impossible wishes keep were in every person, so If I were the coach and If she were ready are both correct. A second conditional claim usually sits below about twenty percent belief, and that is what makes it a dream instead of a plan. A mixed conditional joins a finished past cause with a present result, as in if we had practised we would not be disappointed now. unless means if not and already carries the negative, so the verb after it stays affirmative and in the present form. In case marks a precaution already taken against a possible event, and its verb stays in the present form. A conditional clause that opens the sentence takes a comma, and that comma disappears when the clause moves to second place. The third conditional rewrites a closed past, so if they had tested the sensor it would not have stopped on stage. Could have and might have soften a regret into a lost possibility instead of a certain result. Should have plus participle criticises a past choice without needing any if clause. every have inside a conditional or a modal takes a past participle, and the irregular forms decide the accuracy. The double had of the past perfect reduces in speech, so if I had had is heard as if I ada had. The story can be told in the passive to hide who acted, as in the sensor was cleaned once and the backup was never charged. A good retrospective text opens with the fact, imagines the alternative and returns to the fact before it closes. In a real retrospective paragraph the writer stacks third conditionals and then lands on one lesson in the present. Before you answer, decide which time the item tests: an open future, an unlikely present or a closed past.

      18. Fuentes y continuidad

      1. Un hecho, tres gramáticas del "qué si"

The robot stopped forty-five seconds into a ninety-second run and the team lost by forty points.

      2. Second: el presente improbable

El second imagina un hoy falso: if the team had a spare motor they would not be stuck now. Were se conserva en toda persona: if I were the coach. ¿Por qué "were" y no "was" aquí?

      3. Unless e in case: verbos en presente

Unless ya niega (if not), así que el verbo tras él va afirmativo y en presente: unless we clean the sensor. In case marca una precaución ya tomada: I set an alarm in case I forget. Prohibido el will después de estos conectores. ¿"Unless we will not practise" es correcto?

      4. Third: arrepentir el pasado cerrado

The third rewrites a closed past: if they had tested the sensor it would not have stopped on stage. Cuidado con el had had doble: if we had had more time suena "ada had". Could have y might have suavizan el arrepentimiento a posibilidad perdida. ¿Qué error caro mete "would" dentro del if?

      5. Mixed y el texto retrospectivo

Un mixed une causa pasada con resultado de hoy: if we had practised we would not be disappointed now, con now en el resultado.
