→ "Could you tell me where the team MEETS?" — sin does, sin inversión.
- HABILIDADES EN TRES GRADOS: can (puedo: I can use Excel), could (podía / podría: I could handle five tables during my shift), be able to (el todoterreno que cubre los tiempos que can no tiene: "I will be able to start in August"); y para el CV: "I am good at solving problems", "I am skilled with data" — be good AT + gerundio, siempre.
- EL MÉTODO STAR: Situation (el contexto: "our school had no recycling program"), Task (tu encargo: "I was asked to fix that"), Action (QUÉ hiciste tú, verbos de acción: "I designed a system and trained twelve volunteers"), Result (con número si puede: "waste dropped by 30% in one month"): la respuesta que todo entrevistador quiere oír.
- PREGUNTAS PELIGROSAS con fórmula: "What is your weakness?" no pide confessar pecados, pide autoconciencia + plan: "Sometimes I take too long on details, so I am now using a timer for drafts": debilidad real + estrategia en progreso (present continuous + so); "Why should we hire you?" se responde con puente: experiencia de la empresa + tu evidencia + tu futuro cercano.
- CIERRE CON PREGUNTA PROPIA: entrevistas profesionales terminan con "Do you have any questions for us?" — responder "no" es regalarte: pregunta algo real: "What does success look like in this role after six months?", "What would my first project be?".
Cómo preparar una respuesta STAR
De la anécdota al argumento
Elige tres historias
Termina con consecuencia medible o aprendida: "we hit the deadline" / "I learned to ask for help earlier": sin Result, tu historia es una queja.
- PREGUNTA DIRECTA (entre amigos): "What are your hours?"
- EL SOBRE DE CORTESÍA: "Could you tell me..."
Could you tell me where the office IS" — nunca "where is the office"
Convierte a indirect question cortes: "How much does the position pay?" → Could you tell me...? ¿qué le quitaste y qué le moviste?
Ejemplo resuelto: la pregunta trampa
"Tell me about a time something went wrong"
Respuesta pánico
"Uh, everything was a disaster, but I fixed it, I am a fighter."
"During last term, our team was preparing the science fair when our main presenter got sick two days before."
"I had to reorganize the presentation overnight so we would not lose our slot." — el encargo claro y personal.A — Action
"I split the slides into three parts, coached two teammates on their sections, and rehearsed twice with our teacher."R — Result
"We got second place, and our teacher now asks me to run the rehearsals": resultado medible + reputación ganada; la anécdota se volvió credencial.
Paso 1 de 5
Practica ahora
Choose the correct indirect question for an interview:
"I ___ speak Spanish at fifteen, but now I ___ handle client calls in it." (correct pair)
Completa la indirect question: "Do you know when the interview (start)?" — sin auxiliar de pregunta dentro del sobre.
A STAR answer should spend most of its words on the Situation so the interviewer understands the context.
