Past experiences

Today you will learn to talk about past experiences in English: past simple, past continuous, and expressions to describe memories and events. Talking about the past is essential in English communication.

Past simple tense

The past simple is used for completed actions in the past. Regular verbs end in -ed (worked, played, studied). Irregular verbs have special forms (went, saw, ate). Example: I visited Mexico City last summer.

Past continuous tense

  1. Form

    The past continuous is formed with was/were + verb-ing. Example: I was studying when you called. She was playing tennis at 5 pm.

Common expressions for past experiences: 1) Last week/month/year (specific time), 2) When I was a child (period of life), 3) One day (unspecified time), 4) I remember (memory), 5) I will never forget (strong memory).
